Onshore

Facing west, waiting for a sunrise
Proactively passive
Wait and see
Don’t fall asleep yet
Water everywhere and not a drop to drink
Below the bike path, before the concrete
Tantalus grins: “first time?”
I nod, disturbing the albatross
starring blankly at me
Green flash lasts for no longer than 2 seconds
Do not blink
Don’t want to miss it
Sodium Vapors drown a million transmissions
18 wheels carry the sum of their vibrations
the last unfurled warning this time of night
Reverse the canal. Pollute a different body
I am a liquid
I hold the form of my container
Pour me so I may seep down
and chase the receding water table
Leave sentiments in the sediments
Yesterday’s rain, a partial payment
Forget how to repent
Old gods crave adoration
Sleep on it
Wait and see

I Knew I Could
03:03

Misunderstood
but insistent
I felt obscured
but consistent (and distant)
Coffee sunrise
wax paper pancake
and the fork tastes
like you
I felt assured
Till I didn’t
I sought reward
couldn’t get it
Impossible as it seems
we inhabit the same dream
don’t look away
I knew I could
but I didn’t
Don’t want to reply
with lucid bromide
but I do anyway

Ça M’est Égal

I got a closet full of clothes
that I never wear
My pictures look the same
Even when I'm not there
I would turn them around
but they continue to stare
I would throw them all away
if my Mom didn't care
I wake up put on jeans and a clean t-shirt
By the end of the day they'll be covered in dirt
Yes it's unpleasant, but that doesn't mean it should hurt
They say that you attract, but that's not what I heard
It doesn't matter at all
Ça M’est Égal

I Thirst

Stare through the smartphone screen
The window to the soul
Well that street runs both ways baby
Don’t want to go down it no more
Add to cart tattooed on my heart
Looking in the mirror, now that’s the hard part
I'm thirsty
But not like that
Well I guess like that
Breath in my mouth vax daddy
Don’t need no mask
Take me to brunch neolib daddy
Deregulate my ass
(Don't even have to ask)
Welcome to the new pit
Different depth, but same old shit
Sleep well you black eyed swine
Since you ain't going nowhere
Tweak my algorithm to get a taste of jism
Share you biorhythm to sync the cataclysm
I'm thirsty
But not like that
Well I guess like that
I want to talk to brand new people
I want to hear new things from new people
I’ve heard everything anybody here ever said or ever will say
Its got to be somebody new
But not like that

Don't Go Idle

Hi. How are you?
You’re slightly off center
Hi. How are you?
I’ve never felt better
First and the fifteenth are the only days that matter to me
Everything else is just a totally shitty dream
Pay the rent, the mortgage, the bills
Leave it all behind
until the next month
Do it all the time
And If I’m sick
find me a bucket
If I’m ill
I say fuck it
Put it on mute
Put 'em all on mute
Leave it on read
Leave 'em on read till they’re dead
I cry a name in the middle of the night
the name of a feeling long out of sight
it’s a plead it’s a prayer for a sensation
that was never there
Hi. How are you?
You’re slightly off center
Hi. How are you?
I’ve never felt better
They suckle our teat
who’s the parasite?
infinite debt in our sight
The forests have smoked us out
The mountains have passed us by
We are marching toward the sea
I guess the sea is marching toward me
Fresh from the water
I’ve never felt wetter
Go from the deep
to the better
to the bitter end

Satan gave me a taco
And it made me really sick
The chicken was all raw
And the grease was mighty thick
The rice was all rancid
And the beans were so hard
I was getting kinda dizzy
Eatin' all the lard
There was aphids on the lettuce
And I ate every one
And after I was done
The salsa melted off my tongue
Pieces of tortilla
Got stuck in my throat
And the stains on my clothes
Burned a hole through my coat
My stomach was a'tremblin'
And I broke out in a rash
I was so dry and thirsty
And I didn't have no cash
So I went and found a hose
Tore off all my clothes
Turned on the water
And it shot right up my nose
Some old lady came along
And she thought I was a freak
So she beat me with her handbag
'til I could hardly speak
I was lying there naked
My body badly bruised
In a pool of my own blood
Unconscious and confused
Well the cops came and got me
And threw me in their van
And I woke up on the ceiling
And I couldn't find my hand
They took me to the judge
His eyes a'glowin' red
The courtroom was filled
With witches and the dead
Well the sheriff was a hell-hound
With fangs and claws
The prisoners were tied up
And chained to the walls
The air was getting thick
The smoke was getting thicker
The judge read the verdict
Said "cut off his head!"
Well they placed me on the altar
And they raised up the axe
My head was about to explode
When I noticed the marshall stacks
I noticed all the smoke machines
Cameras and the lights
Some guy with a microphone
Runnin' around dancin' in tights
And I noticed the crew
And the band playin' down below
And I realized I was in a rock video
So I went and joined the band
And I went out on tour
And I smoked a lot of heroin
And I passed out in manure
I made out with the groupies (aw yeah)
Started fires backstage (aw yeah, start 'em up)
Made a lot of money (aw yeah, I'm makin' it)
And I gave it all away (give it all to me)
Well the band got killed (aw, bunch of losers)
So I started a solo career (aw haw, yeah
And I won all the awards (get 'em all now)
And I drank all the beer (drink it all up; get funky)
And I opened up the taco stand (aw haw, etc.)
Just to smell the smell
Cookin' with the devil
Fryin' down in hell
